Privacy policy

Last updated 19/10/2026

No backend, no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no tracking. Your work stays in your browser. What you send for marking goes from your browser straight to the AI service, never to ky.

Who runs this site

ky, a student, for a few classmates. It is a private, non-commercial study tool and not an HSLU service. For any question about this policy or your data, contact ky in class or in the class chat.

What is saved on your device

The page saves these in your browser's local storage, on this device only:

The page needs this to work, so there is no separate consent: using the page means it saves these, and you can delete them at any time (see below). If you untick Remember my keys, the two keys are kept only for this tab, but a browser can bring them back when it reopens a closed tab, so use Forget my keys on a shared computer. None of it is sent to ky or to the web host. It stays until you delete it. Your browser may also delete it, for example when you clear site data or close a private window.

What leaves your device

So data can end up in the USA, and Google's terms allow it to store prompts briefly in other countries too. Google states in its privacy documents that it is certified under the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework, which Switzerland recognises as adequate protection; check the host's own privacy policy for the same. Google's own documents: the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

Your API key

Your key is saved in this browser and sent only to Google, in a request header and never in a web address. Any script running on this page could read it, so the page runs only its own code and the editor, and its security policy blocks scripts from other sites and every connection except the one to Google's Gemini API. If you think your key leaked, delete it in Google AI Studio and create a new one.

Deleting your data

Your rights

Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection you can ask what data about you is processed, have it corrected or deleted, and complain to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). ky receives no data about you, so ky has nothing to show, correct or delete. For what the AI service or the web host process, use the rights and tools their privacy policies describe.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too.

Terms of use

Last updated 19/10/2026

This is a limited access website in a grey area. Use it to practise, keep it among the people ky invited, and do not trust its marks blindly.

Limited access

The workbench is for the classmates ky invited. The exercises are encrypted with the access key, so the page is unreadable without it, but anyone who has the key can open it. Do not post the key, the link or the exercises anywhere, and do not pass them on. ky can change the key or close the site at any time.

Why it is a grey area

Course material. The workbench is unofficial: HSLU and the module's lecturers did not make, check or approve it. The exercises are written for practice but based on the course material and the book Objects First with Java, which belong to their authors. Swiss copyright law allows private use only within a close circle of friends, and HSLU's ILIAS terms do not allow passing course material on. That is why the site is locked, kept out of search engines and limited to a few people.

If you hold rights to the material or teach the module and want something changed or taken down, tell ky and it will be done straight away.

Google's terms. The Gemini API terms say that an app offered to users in Switzerland, the EEA or the UK may use only Google's paid services, that the API is meant for developers building products rather than for consumers, and that API keys are for their owner's own apps. This page runs on each student's own free key, a case the terms do not clearly address and Google could see as a breach. The realistic risk is that Google limits or blocks your key or its project. Using the page is your own decision, at your own risk. Linking a billing account to your key's project brings you closer to Google's terms, but Google then charges for every request, so the free tier with billing off is the only way that costs nothing.

AI marking can be wrong

Marks, hints and answers come from an AI model. It reads your code but does not run it, and it makes mistakes. A mark is practice feedback, not a grade. Check anything important against the course material, never hand in AI output as your own work, and only use the workbench during a graded test if the lecturer allows it.

Your API key, your account

You use your own Google AI Studio key under Google's terms: the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service, the Google APIs Terms of Service and the Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy. Google requires you to be 18 or older, and so does this site. You are responsible for what is sent with your key. On the free tier the workbench costs nothing. If you link billing, Google charges for what you use, and that is between you and Google.

No guarantee

The site is free and offered as it is. There is no guarantee that it works, stays online or keeps your work, so keep a copy of anything you need.

Your API key

Paste a new Google AI Studio API key. The page checks it with Google, saves it in this browser and reloads. Your work stays.

No key yet? It takes about two minutes
  1. Open Google AI Studio and sign in with a personal Google account. Google only allows this from 18.
  2. Accept the terms. A new account gets a project and a key straight away. Otherwise press Create API key and let it make a project.
  3. Copy the key, a long code of letters and digits, and paste it below.

Get one in Google AI Studio. A second key from the same Google project shares its free limits, so it does not add any.

Model rotation

Each free Gemini model has its own limits, so the page spreads your work over them. Check answer starts with the strongest model that is ready, Ask with the lightest. When Google says a model is busy or out of free requests, the page moves on and comes back to it later. Daily limits reset at midnight in California, 09:00 in Switzerland most of the year. Google sets the free limits and has cut them before.
